Coronation Street isn't just a soap opera... it's more a way of life

Kevin’s first involvement with the world’s longest running drama serial  ‘Coronation Street’ was when he started to supply spectacles from his opticians shop in Manchester in 1983.

He supplied many of the spectacles for the show’s characters and two years later he started the “Petrole” Animal Agency and began to provide all the ‘Animal Stars’ for the programme.

Who can forget Hilda Ogden’s cat – Rommel, Jack’s pigeons or Percy and Emily’s budgie – the list is endless.

Many memorable programmes were made featuring dozens and dozens of the show’s star pets, all supplied by Kevin.

Some of the most memorable requests from the producers were Teresa – the Battersby’s Christmas turkey, the cat that sits on the roof during the opening titles and Rita Sullivan’s pet pooch – Mr Woo.

He even got involved in the casting of Chesney’s new dog – Schmeichel and tried to warn them that the adorable and manageable little puppy would grow up to be the size of a small donkey!
